Port Moody-Coquitlam is probably the best example of why Electoral Reform is needed badly in our system. The CPC, NDP, and Liberals finished within 1179 votes of each other. Nelly Shin (CPC) narrowly beat out Bonita Zarillo (NDP) by 333 votes, with LPC candidate Sara Badiei close behind. Each candidate had approximately a third of the popular vote.
Now sure, you can argue that this is the way it’s supposed to work and that Shin won. These are both true, but should it be this way? ~60% of the people in this riding voted against the winner.
This election robbed the CPC the right to govern and the NDP and Greens a significant number of seats.
